Holding respectfully to the Winnebago tradition, Mercedes has created the 2013 Winnebago Era; a laid-back ride with a luxury details and a full view for the driver through prime side-panel windows that stretch from just behind the front doors all the way back to Winnie’s rump.

And that’s just the outside.

The Winnebago Era comes stacked with custom options that come standard. It could serve as a sleek and versatile camping outpost or a full-time couple’s home.

This Class B motorhome can sleep up to four in a some very convenient ways. The flex beds in the rear turn a queen easily into two twins. The sofa behind the captains’ chairs up front can slide down into a small bed that’s 36 inches wide by 66 inches long. A nearby pedestal table can be used as a nightstand, coffee table or even for holding dinner plates.

Between the sofa bed and rear bedroom suite for two is a compact but wide-open arrangement for living easily on the go: On the driver’s side, a fridge, cabinets and bathroom/shower area behind folding doors are across from a TV, stove, sink and closet.

Back in that bedroom, it’s quiet and as dark as you want it to be with the all-around MCD Roller Shades. Across from the headboards is another flatscreem. Behind the headboards, one of the Winnebago Era’s most cherished feature to some: Two giant double doors that allow access to another storage space and lift gate, with room for a Harley and a dozen or more suitcases.

On site, this RV turns into even more of a home, with a sweeping patio awning and even a “front porch” light next to the door behind the front passenger.

At all times, inhabitants can stay in touch with the technological age — from the Sirius Connect for satellite radio/television, dash video GPS and “RV Radio” geared specifically to the lifestyle to a 2,500-watt MicroQuiet on-board generator (Cummins Onan®), space-age storage technology and something called Ultraleather by Ultrafabrics that is bound to make sitting down feel more luxurious.

These are just some of the dozens of features the Winnebago Era employs to keep its customers returning when it’s time to let somebody else keep pulling that old Winnie from Woodstock with the burnt orange upholstery and wood paneling everywhere else.

That old dear Winnebago is not this new one in the least.

With an astonishing low price, the 2012 Winnebago Era is a great deal for someone looking for a motorhome with innovative features and comforts added to both a fuel efficient and space efficient design.

Who’s ready for the new era of, well…the ERA?Airstream-Interstate

That’s right folks, after being put on hold after the 2010 model year due to changes in the federal diesel emission standards, the Winnebago Era Class B Van is coming back with a bang.

The new 2012 model is going to come with some excellent new features, some of which include additional overhead storage above the cab, additional wardrobe storage, a larger patio awning, larger electric sofa bed and standard stainless steel wheel liners – just to name a few.

According to a press release sent out by Winnebago late last year, the company chose to evaluate how it could best enhance and improve the ERA before launching a new model year of product. With 2011 Mercedes Sprinter Van, the company was able to produce the Era with better user functionality and enhance features, and add more storage, capacity and value.

Before production was halted, the Era was quickly becoming a Class B favorite among customers.

Dave Arbogast Van Depot is looking forward to the return of the Era. Although we’ve not yet received a delivery date, we plan to post another blog as soon as we do.

Until then, here is a complete list of the Era’s new features:

* Mercedes Sprinter 3500 with Dual rear wheels
* Additional Overhead Storage – Above cab, behind driver’s seat, behind bath
* Additional wardrobe storage – Shirt closet behind bath, available removable wardrobe behind driver seat
* Standard stainless steel wheel liners

The Winnebago Era to return in 2012!  I had a chance to walk through the all new Era at the annual dealer RV show in Louisville, Ky., and was extremely impressed. As you know, Winnebago halted production of the Era in 2010.  I am confident Winnebago will continue to gain market share with the new Era model.

Some of the Era’s new features include:

  • Mercedes Sprinter 3500 with Dual rear wheels
  • Additional Overhead Storage – Above cab, behind driver’s seat, behind bath
  • Additional wardrobe storage – Shirt closet behind bath, available removable wardrobe behind driver seat
  • Standard stainless steel wheel liners
  • Available stylized aluminum wheels
  • Available exterior accessories package – Polished stainless steel grill bar cover, Polished stainless steel rocker trim
  • Larger 13′ patio awning
  • Larger 70″ electric sofa bed standard with 3 belted sofa positions and 2 child seat tethers
  • Available GPS
  • Available rear view monitor
  • 110V/LP water heater standard vs. LP only water heater

Winnebago blames the implantation of new federal diesel emissions standards for the halt in production. “We chose to evaluate how we could best enhance and improve the ERA before launching a new model year of product. With the 2011 Mercedes Sprinter Van we’re able to produce the Era with better user functionality and enhance features,” Winnebago reported.

I do have multiple pictures and a video of the new Winnebago Era, but are Winnebago rep asked me not to  include pictures in this post.  I will be sure to share all me assets once I get the green light. Arbogast Van Depot has multiple 2012 Winnebago Era models on order.

Winnebago has definitely hit the bulls-eye with the Travato. Recently making its debut appearance at the Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, NV, this Class B motorhome offers a satisfying RV experience with great use of space, many quality features, and prime specifications.

The Travato utilizes the first FWD Fiat Ducato chassis to be offered in the United States. It is the most popular full-sized chassis in Europe, found in two out of three RVs built there. Branded in the United States as the Ram ProMaster, this powerfully reinforced chassis makes for a solid platform that is available in two roof heights, three wheelbases, and four body lengths.

The Ram ProMaster comes equipped with either the 3.0-liter, I-4, 174-horsepower EcoDiesel, or the 280-horsepower, 3.6-liter, Pentastar V-6, paired with an electronically controlled six-speed automated manual or a six-speed automatic transmission, respectively. The nimble 2014 Travato weighs in at 9350 pounds, and features a 4400 pound payload with a 5100 pound towing capacity.

With an amazing fuel efficiency of up to 18 miles per gallon, the Winnebago Travato is a significant rival to the Class B Mercedes-Benz Sprinter platform. Measuring at a comfortable 20 feet long, the Travato remains easy to handle and fun to drive, without sacrificing a fully integrated RV experience.

The Travato also makes great use of space. There are several storage compartments, both on the interior and exterior of the RV, not to mention easy rear-door access for the storing of camping gear, bicycles, or anything else one might need to pack. It is equipped with a space-saving split dinette, as well as the Flex-a-Bed, which can be converted into either two twin beds, or one queen size bed. Beneath the bed are drawers for additional storage.

For those looking for a fully functional and luxurious touring RV, the Winnebago Travato may be the perfect option, as it was designed to be stylish, modern, and comfortable. The cab is equipped swivel seats, Rand McNally GPS navigation system, and interior LED lighting. The front-drive layout offers best-in-class ceiling height and lowest load floor, making it easy to load and step into.

Agile, smart, good-looking and economical, the abundance of features the Winnebago Travato offers makes it an affordable game changer that should appeal to a sizable customer base. What’s more, Chrysler has increased the number of dealers that are authorized to service ProMaster-based recreational vehicles, so Winnebago customers will find it easier than ever to get service.

Driving a Class B Camper Van like a Pleasure Way or a Winnebago Era can be an amazing way to see the country, reconnect with family, and enjoy the pleasures of AscentExternal21the open road. However, with the power and freedom of a camper van comes a responsibility to share the road and be a respectful and safe driver. Here are 10 ways to become a more respectful and considerate driver while driving one of these RVs.

1. Keep the left lane for passing vehicles

Most states already have laws that state that the left lane should only be used when passing or when turning. If you aren’t doing either of the two, you should be in the right lane.

2. Learn to zipper merge

Zipper merging is a good way to make construction zones or quick lane closures work more efficiently. Most drivers think that they’re supposed to merge as soon as possible when they see lane closures on the highway. However, the most efficient way to merge is actually to wait as long as possible to merge and to do so at a higher speed. Doing so helps keep traffic jams to a minimum.

3. Keep an eye out down further when driving

The farther ahead you look when driving, the better you are able to react and avoid potential accidents, traffic jams, and other problems on the road. A number of accidents happen when people are simply looking at the car right in front of them. Learning to anticipate is crucial when driving a larger vehicle.

4. Maintain a safe following distance

Just as it’s important to look out further down the road, it’s also important to keep a safe distance when following other vehicles. This helps prevent accidents and helps you anticipate what’s coming up next.

5. Don’t be a rubberneck

Accidents are an unfortunate part of driving, but we can reduce the risk of causing additional accidents by keeping our eyes focused on the road ahead rather than by looking at accidents that have already happened.

6. Keep those high beams off

Unless you’re in the middle of the night and on roads where there aren’t lights set up, you shouldn’t be using those high beams. They blind other drivers and increase the risks of accidents.

7. Maintain the right of way when it’s yours

It might seem polite to yield the right of way when it’s yours, but don’t do it, as it leads to accidents.

8. Use your hazard lights to say thank you

It’s a quick way of being polite and acknowledging others when they let you in on the road.

9. Remember those turn signals

It’s a way of showing your manners to signal before you turn. It’s also the law.

10. Leave extra time for your trip

Finally, haste makes waste. Leave early to arrive on time.
